As Police and Crime Commissioner I ‘commission’ or purchase efficient and effective policing for Wiltshire and services that deliver my police and crime plan.
Commissioning involves making decisions about how best to spend the money I receive from central government and local council tax to get the best possible services for you.
I work with partner agencies, local communities and service providers to understand what is needed in Wiltshire. By listening to local people, partners and victims of crime I gain a real insight into how services are doing, understand any gaps, strengths and how we can make improvements. This influences the direction I take with commissioning and is laid out in my police and crime plan.
I scrutinise and challenge the work of the Chief Constable and other service providers. I hold them to account for the quality of services they deliver to our local communities and victims of crime. The governance, performance and contractual arrangements I have in place help deliver this commissioning role and help ensure we get the best service possible.
We are currently updating our commissioning strategy which will outline my approach to commissioning in more detail.
