Shortly after taking office I established a £1 million Innovation Fund to support community and voluntary initiatives throughout Wiltshire and Swindon which would help to achieve the six main priorities set out in my original Police and Crime Plan. I was particularly interested in supporting innovative new ideas which would make a lasting difference to community safety and help to break cycles of crime and anti-social behaviour, including supporting repeat offenders.
Awards were made in three rounds: July 2013, November 2013 and March 2014. One year after the last round of awards was made, I commissioned The Community Foundation for Wiltshire and Swindon to evaluate each project that was funded. This document is its report. I am delighted by the conclusions that the Community Foundation has reached which include:
- Out of the 35 projects funded, 24 will continue after the end of the period of funding
- There was a fairly even geographic spread of projects across Wiltshire and Swindon
- More than 24,000 people will have benefited from the projects
I would like thank the Community Foundation for its work to produce this report. It demonstrates the vitality of the community and voluntary sector in Wiltshire and Swindon.
