In pursuit of transparency and openness, a number of independent panels have been created to examine aspects of Force and PCC activity. You can find details of their work by clicking the links in the text below or via the menu on the left hand side of this page.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon and the Wiltshire Police Chief Constable have set up an independent Audit Committee.
It was created in line with guidance set out in the Home Office Financial Management Code of Practice for the police forces of England and Wales.
Members of the public are welcome to attend Audit Committee meetings.
This independent panel was set up:
- To scrutinise community resolutions and out of court cautions, chosen randomly.
- To scrutinise Neighbourhood Justice Panel cases and to assist in exploring how this work can be expanded.
- To scrutinise restorative justice (RJ) cases within other areas of Swindon and Wiltshire where this is felt helpful and will help in promoting good practice.
- To liaise with, and receive the report of, the Restorative Practices Community Engagement Group to help embed and build community confidence in this form of resolution and crime prevention.
Please note that the terms of reference are due to be reviewed and updated at a meeting in June 2016.
