I am delighted that Wiltshire Police has set up a Volunteer Police Cadet scheme in Swindon.
It is the first time that the Force has had a cadet scheme since the 1980s.
The 21 cadets aged between 13 and 17 are all from the North Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team area.
Each week the cadets are involved in various exercises designed to teach them about the policing service and develop their skills in areas such as teamwork and communication.
I hope the scheme will be rolled out across the market towns of Wiltshire and the city of Salisbury in due course.
The aim is to reduce youth vulnerability to crime and social exclusion by enhancing young people’s ability to contribute and achieve.
