Apply for Swindon detached youth work grant

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner are looking to provide a grant to an organisation to undertake detached youth work at five key sites across Swindon which have been identified as having higher rates of anti-social behaviour and serious violence.  

The detached youth work will support young people at risk of anti-social behaviour to signpost into diversionary activity and will operate at the peak times identified through our own analysis. 

The total sum available for the delivery of the detached youth work will be up to £24,999. 

Organisation specification 

The successful recipient of the grant will deliver 500 hours of detached youth work in the agreed locations, at the peak times each week, by 31 March 2025 and be able to evidence: 

• An engagement strategy to allow deployment of detached youth workers within small (200mx200m) hotspot areas at peak times to engage with young people (aged 10-19) 
• A track record of successful engagement with young people in an on-street setting 
• How youth workers will be visible in the target areas, including the wearing of branded clothing. 
• Engagement with key communities and meet the needs of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities who are less able to access open access provision 
• All delivery to be led by professionally qualified youth workers 
• That all youth workers, youth support workers and volunteers will receive professional supervision 
• All staff and volunteers to be subject to enhanced DBS checks 
• The necessary policies in place (safeguarding, health and safety, data protection, equal opportunities) to ensure the protection of the young people they are working with 
• Adequate insurance in place (employer's liability, public liability, professional indemnity) 

• Agreement to participate in any publicity and communications activity as required 
• Ability to provide monthly reports to the OPCC outlining: 
• The times youth workers have been visible within the target areas, including the dates and times they entered and exited the area (precise maps will be provided) and number of youth workers within the area 
• Number of engagements with young people in these areas 
• A monthly narrative report outlining activity and any incidents occurring within the target area.
