Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) independently assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of police forces and fire and rescue services.
They provide authoritative information to allow the public to compare the performance of their police force and fire and rescue service against others. Inspecting police forces across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Forces are assessed on their effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy and graded as outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.
Police and Crime Commissioners have a legal duty to respond to many reports produced by HMICFRS for their force; national reports (PEEL or thematic); and joint inspection reports which are published by HMICFRS.
Listed below are details of recent HMICFRS inspections and reports and, where relevant, a response from the PCC. Please note that not all HMICFRS reports require a response from the PCC. They are, however, scrutinised and actively discussed during internal performance oversight meetings.
