As the excitement of the World Cup brings people together, many of us are heading out more often—meeting friends to watch matches, celebrating big moments, and enjoying the buzz of game nights. With more people out and about, creating safe spaces for everyone is more important than ever.
The Getting You Home Safe campaign is here to make sure you’re aware of the initiatives and support available, so you can enjoy matches and celebrations safely. Whether you’re in Swindon or anywhere else in Wiltshire, you’re not alone—there are people and services ready to help.
We’re working with local venues, local authorities, transport providers, community groups, and Wiltshire Police to make nights safer in busy viewing locations and high footfall areas like Swindon. Together, we’re making sure that everyone feels safe while enjoying the games and gets home safely.
Last summer you may have seen:
Neighbourhood wardens are regularly patrolling Park North, Park South, Walcot East, Old Town and Faringdon Road in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour and serious violence in Swindon.
Whilst the Neighbourhood Wardens don’t have any powers of arrest, they are all fully SIA licensed and are equipped with body-worn cameras. The team are directed by SBC’s ASB Team who have enforcement powers to tackle ASB.
The wardens work closely with local Neighbourhood Policing Teams and share intelligence and information where appropriate.

Accredited Taxi Marshals patrol Swindon’s busy taxi pick-up zones—particularly in Old Town, Princes Street, and Town Centre North which have been identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour and vulnerability, especially during peak weekend hours.
The marshals operate between 10pm and 6am on Friday and Saturday nights every weekend from 15 August 2025 through to April 2026 to support safer dispersal, reduce risk, and help people get home safely.
Street Pastors are a group of Christian volunteers from various churches across Swindon. Working independently, but with the full support of the Police and Swindon Borough Council, and working closely with security and door staff of the pubs and clubs. They patrol Friday and Saturday nights between 10pm and 4am.
Street Pastors are there to offer a prayerful presence, a listening ear and simple, practical help.
The Night Angels go out in teams of 4 (or more) and are equipped with first aid, AED, period products, phone chargers, anti-spiking products, alarms, water, sweets, clothing, blankets, sliders and more.
They can also transport vulnerable people to safety when needed, the situation will be assessed first. The Night Angels work closely with the emergency services and local night time economy venues.
Night Angels are launching in Swindon in January 2026. They have recently attended Op Vigilant deployments with Wiltshire Police.
Whether you’re heading out for a celebration, a quiet drink, or a night of dancing, Getting You Home Safe is here to help.
If you can, think ahead about how you’ll get home. Licensed taxis, public transport, and community transport schemes are available. If plans change, help is nearby—just ask.
Community safety is a shared responsibility. If you notice someone who might need help or something that doesn’t feel right, speak up. Trained staff and volunteers are ready to assist.
Venues signed up to the Safer Nights Charter and initiatives like Ask for Angela are there to help if you feel unsafe. Just ask – trained staff are ready to support you.
Expect to see officers and street wardens out and about. Their presence is there to reassure you and keep the night safe for everyone.
If something feels off, report it. Speak to venue staff, contact the police, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers. Your voice matters.
