County Lines drugs networks are complex, often hidden, and target some of the most vulnerable people in Wiltshire and Swindon and we’ve got to work together to prevent our young or vulnerable people from falling into the hands of these hardened criminals.
We all need to be aware of the signs of somebody being exploited by these gangs and if we have suspicions around deals taking place in our communities, we must take the time to report it.
I’m asking our communities at every opportunity to share intelligence with the police and our partner agencies so we can effectively target drug gangs which ruin the lives of young people and some of our most vulnerable residents.
You may not think it’s much, but it could be the final piece to a much bigger picture - so please report anything that feels wrong, no matter how insignificant it seems.
Equally as important is the work we are doing to protect and help those vulnerable people - often children and young adults - who are exploited to become part of these criminal networks. These victims are usually threatened with serious violence - and sometimes are even on the receiving end of this violence - which forces them into working for these criminal gangs.
We are seeing more serious and violent crimes being committed related to county lines and street dealing. It’s our priority to safeguard these vulnerable victims along with protecting all in our communities, including those living in our neighbourhoods whose lives are very much blighted by this type of criminality, causing misery and harm.
If you’re worried about reporting something, you don’t have to give the police your details or even contact them directly. If you have information about suspected drug dealing in your community, you can speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use their non-traceable form online.
Or should you be happy to speak to police, you can report information and intelligence online at Report a crime | Wiltshire Police or call the Force on 101.
