Funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson’s Community Action Fund, the Free the Night walk took place on the eve on International Women’s Day and was organised by local charity FearFree and female founded drinks brand Still Sisters.
The evening began with banner making in the FearFree store before people marched in a party style atmosphere through the centre of Trowbridge. Along the route people could enjoy a live performance from The Sylvertones, watch a display from SASS Circus Skills and join a Clubbersize flash mob in the park.
Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson said: “FearFree’s Free the Night event was a great example of organisations coming together and taking it upon themselves to help make communities – specifically women and girls - feel safer when out and about at night.
“Every year my Community Action Fund is delivered in partnership with Wiltshire Community Foundation to support groups to deliver these kinds of activities in line with the priorities set out in my #MakingWiltshireSafer Police and Crime Plan.
“My office will continue to invest in these, and other projects to show our commitment to reducing violence and serious harm, tackling violence against women and girls, and creating a safer night time economy for all.”
