As Wiltshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, I am inviting every resident to take part in shaping the future of policing in our county. Through my Use Your Voice: Budget and Precept survey, I want to hear from you about how much extra you would be willing to invest in policing—and why.
The feedback you provide will play a key role in deciding next year’s policing budget. This budget, funded through a combination of your council tax police precept and a grant from the Government, supports all aspects of Wiltshire Police’s operations and commissioned services.
Currently, Wiltshire Police is the third-lowest funded force per capita in the country. A Band D household currently contributes [insert current amount], and I am proposing a modest increase of just over 5%—an additional £14 per year or £1.16 per month. This is the maximum increase allowed without triggering a Local Referendum.
Wiltshire Police is on an improvement journey. With the highest number of officers in a decade, better training, faster 101 and 999 response times, improved community engagement, and higher justice outcomes, the Force is transforming to better serve you. These improvements have already led to Wiltshire Police being lifted from the "Engage" status earlier this year.
However, achieving these results has required significant investment. It is essential that we continue this progress to ensure our communities are not only safer but also feel safer.
The Use Your Voice: Budget and Precept survey is your chance to influence these decisions. The survey is open until Friday, 31 January 2025, and takes only a few minutes to complete.
My team and I will also be attending Area Boards and events throughout January to hear your views directly. You can find the full schedule below:
We will also be visiting various primary schools in Wiltshire and Swindon.
Detailed information about next year’s budget and our plans for the future will be available in mid-January. These details will be discussed at the Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Panel.
This is your opportunity to shape the future of policing in Wiltshire. Your voice matters—together, we can make a real difference.
