MPs briefed by PCC on Wiltshire Police response to COVID19

Wiltshire and Swindon MPs have continued to praise the work undertaken by Wiltshire Police in response to the COVID19 pandemic.

During yesterday's weekly briefing, chaired by Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson, the County's MPs and leaders of the two local authorities were pleased to hear that a good level of compliance with the Government restrictions continues.

PCC Macpherson also updated the group that there would be continued scrutiny around every Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) issued by officers in relation to breaches in the current restrictions.

He said: "A key part of my role is to ensure transparently and legitimacy within our police force and this will assist with this during these unsettling times.

"I was pleased to report once again that compliance with the restrictions remains high and that enforcement remains the last resort for officers.

"I was also able to report that our partnerships with other key, local agencies remain strong with each supporting one another with aim of protecting those most vulnerable in our communities.

"I was grateful to hear from health colleagues during the briefing that our local hospitals and other health care providers are performing well under the circumstances.

"Finally, I would like to thank the public once again for continuing to adhere to the guidance by staying home, protecting the NHS and saving lives."

PCC Macpherson holds weekly briefings, alongside Chief Constable Kier Pritchard, to ensure elected members and council leaders have a good insight into the current policing response.
