Safer South Wiltshire: A new Southern Policing Hub at Old Sarum 

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), on behalf of Wiltshire Police, has secured a six-acre site off Mitre Way, Old Sarum, near Salisbury, for the development of a new Southern Policing Hub - a major investment in the future of policing for south Wiltshire. 

This purpose-built facility will become the long-term base for neighbourhood, response and frontline teams, in addition to other operational teams. It will enable Wiltshire Police to deliver a more visible, responsive, and modern police service for the communities of Salisbury and the wider south Wiltshire area.

Why a New Policing Hub Is Needed 

In 2021, a comprehensive review of Wiltshire Police’s operational estate identified the need for improved facilities to support frontline policing. The closure of Salisbury’s former Wilton Road police station in 2014 left the city without a fully operational policing base. 

The Safer South Wiltshire programme was launched to find a permanent, fit-for-purpose solution.

Old Sarum: A Strategic Location 

After assessing multiple options and consulting with operational teams, Old Sarum was identified as the most suitable site. The six-acre plot offers: 

• Excellent road access and transport connectivity 

• Room for future development and expansion 

• A central location to support deployment across south Wiltshire 

The purchase of this land is a significant milestone and follows detailed site feasibility work, public engagement and negotiations led by the OPCC. 

What the New Hub Will Deliver 

The Southern Policing Hub will: 

• House neighbourhood, response and other frontline officers, staff and volunteers, including specialist operational teams 

• Provide modern, sustainable, and efficient facilities 

• Improve operational effectiveness and emergency response times
