Our Getting You Home Safe campaign is packed with practical ways to keep the fun flowing whilst keeping you safe at the same time. Here are seven ways we’re making sure your night ends as well as it starts.
1. Taxi Marshals at key ranks
No more late-night chaos at taxi ranks. Every weekend, Taxi Marshals are on hand in Old Town and the town centre to keep queues moving, prevent disorder, and make sure you get home quickly and safely.
2. Police Patrols and Neighbourhood Wardens
Uniformed officers and Neighbourhood Wardens are out across busy areas throughout the night. Wardens wear body cameras and work closely with police to deter crime and anti-social behaviour, helping keep hotspots calm and welcoming.
3. Street Pastors Supporting the Community
Street Pastors are a friendly face until the early hours, offering practical help like water, flip-flops, and a listening ear. They’re there if you need support or just someone to talk to.
4. Night Angels Volunteers
Launching in January, Night Angels will bring extra reassurance with first aid kits, anti-spiking tools, and even phone chargers. These trained volunteers are ready to help anyone who needs a hand getting home safely.
5. CCTV Coverage Across the Town Centre
A comprehensive CCTV network monitored by Swindon Borough Council means incidents can be spotted and responded to quickly, supporting police and wardens in keeping the town centre safe.
6. Safer Nights Charter Venues
Venues signed up to the Safer Nights Charter are committed to creating safe spaces, using schemes such as ‘Ask For Angela’. Staff are trained to handle challenging situations and work closely with police and council teams to protect customers.
7. Coordinated Partnership Working
Behind the scenes, Wiltshire OPCC, Wiltshire Police, Swindon Borough Council, local businesses, and volunteers are working together to make sure your night out is safe and enjoyable. There’s a whole partnership looking out for you and making sure you get home safe.
As you head out to celebrate, remember that we’re working hard behind the scenes so you can focus on the fun. From trained volunteers and taxi marshals to CCTV and partnership working, every initiative is designed with one goal in mind—getting you home safe. Enjoy the festive season knowing there’s a whole community looking out for you.
